Extension of temporary residence card for foreigners who are exempted from visa
01. Conditions for application 
Foreigners who are exempted from visa issuance can obtain a temporary residance permit within the duration from 15 days to 12 months, depending on the purpose of entry. If this duration expires, the foreigners must extend its temporary residence permit if needed.
Duration for temporary residence permit:
- The duration of the certificate of temporary residence is the same as the duration of the visa. If the duration of the visa is not longer than 15 days, the duration of the temporary residence permit shall be 15 days. If the visa symbol is ĐT or LĐ, the duration of the temporary residence permit shall not exceed 12 months, and the issuance of a temporary residence card shall be considered
- For cases where the foreigners have certificate of visa exemption:
+ Visa exemption under international treaties: 30 days
+ Visa exemption to a checkpoint economic zones: 15 days
+ Visa exemption to a special administrative - economic unit: 30 days
+ Unilateral visa exemption: 15 days
+ Visa exemption when visiting relatives, handling private affairs with spouse, children in Vietnam: no more than 06 months, except for case where the visa exemption certificate is issued before November 15, 2015 and then the extension shall be no more than 09 months

03. Procedure
Step 1: Prepare the following documents
- The passport or another international travel document, or a permanent residence permit issued by an authority of the foreign country to the Vietnamese person residing therein
- A color picture (4cm x 6cm, white background, frontal face, bareheaded and no colorful glasses)
- An application form for extension of temporary residence duration
- The certificate of visa exemption
- Documents proving family relationship between the foreigner and the sponsor.
Step 2: Submit the file
Each applicant for extension of temporary residence duration shall submit an application to Immigration Administration or Immigration Department of provincial police authority
Step 3: Get results
Within 05 working days from the receipt of satisfactory documents, Immigration Administration or Immigration Department of provincial police authority shall consider granting extension of temporary residence duration.
